Virginia Tech upset Tennessee Rugby in quarterfinals, 38-34

No. 9 Virginia Tech defeated No. 2 Tennessee, 38-34, in Saturday’s quarter-finals of the Collegiate Rugby Championship at Tennessee Rugby Park.

Virginia Tech trailed 22-5 throughout the contest.

The ranking reflects the latest poll of the top 25 regular-season coaches.

Virginia Tech plays the winner between UMass and St. Joseph’s on December 3 at Penn State Berks in Reading, Pennsylvania. The national championship will be held in Houston, Texas on December 10th.

The Vols were aiming for back-to-back national championships in 2022. Tennessee won the national title in 2021.

Tennessee won its third straight SCRC championship in 2022, defeating South Carolina 27–22 on November 12.
